Best Bitcoin Bridges for Native BTC in 2026

How BOB Gateway, Garden Finance, THORChain, Chainflip, NEAR Intents, Relay, Symbiosis, tBTC and Across compare.

共有

Most people looking for a Bitcoin bridge want one thing: to turn native BTC into stablecoins, ETH or wrapped BTC on another chain without going through an exchange. There are a lot of ways to do that now, and they don't all work the same way.

We compared nine protocols on three things: the quote you get, where your BTC goes while the swap settles, and which chains you can reach. No protocol wins on all three, so this guide shows you which one leads on each.

Key takeaways

  • BOB Gateway gave the best quote in 4 of 5 native BTC tests on 14 September 2026 and trailed Garden Finance by 1.3 bps in the fifth.
  • Average gap from the best quote: BOB Gateway 0.3 bps, Garden Finance 5.0 bps, THORChain 9.1 bps, NEAR Intents 23.0 bps and Relay 67.9 bps.
  • On 1 BTC to USDC on Ethereum, BOB Gateway quoted 57.14 USDC more than Garden Finance and 503.50 USDC more than Relay.
  • Relay has the widest published coverage in this guide, with 80+ chains.
  • Symbiosis paused its own Bitcoin Bridge after an exploit on 11 September 2026 and now routes BTC swaps through partners.
  • tBTC holds deposits in 51-of-100 threshold signer wallets and gives you a wrapped token.
  • Across only had WBTC routes, across 7 networks, when we checked on 16 September 2026, and no route from the Bitcoin network.

What is the best Bitcoin bridge for native BTC in 2026?

It depends on what you rank as most important. Here's the strongest option for each priority, and why.

How do Bitcoin bridges move native BTC?

Bitcoin doesn't run general-purpose smart contracts. So every protocol that moves BTC value to another chain has to answer two questions: who holds the BTC, and how does the other chain know a Bitcoin payment happened? The protocols in this guide use five designs.

Intent-based swaps with onchain verification for BTC payouts

BOB Gateway is intent-based: you state the outcome you want, like 1 BTC to USDC on Ethereum, and get a signed quote from a solver. You send BTC to a deposit address for that order. Once the deposit is confirmed, the solver delivers your output in a single atomic transaction, or refunds your BTC if it can't.

For swaps back to BTC, your funds sit in escrow until BOB's Bitcoin light client verifies the solver's BTC payment onchain. Only then is the escrow released to the solver (Gateway technical docs).

Hash time-locked atomic swaps

Garden Finance matches your order with a solver, and each side locks funds in a hash time-locked contract (HTLC) on its own chain. One secret unlocks both contracts, so either both transfers go through or each side reclaims its funds once the timelock expires (Garden docs).

Validator-controlled threshold vaults

THORChain and Chainflip hold swap liquidity in vaults whose signing keys are split across a network of node operators. You send BTC to a vault address, the network swaps it through its own liquidity, and the operators jointly sign the payout. Chainflip's Authority Set has up to 150 validators (Chainflip docs).

Solver networks with MPC or bridge settlement

NEAR Intents credits your BTC as a bridged token on NEAR through its Omni Bridge or PoA Bridge. Solvers settle the swap on NEAR, and the output is withdrawn to the destination chain (NEAR docs). Relay takes your deposit into an MPC-controlled Depository, a solver fills your order on the destination chain with its own capital, and Relay repays the solver from your deposit once the fill is verified (Relay docs).

Lock and mint

tBTC takes a BTC deposit into a threshold wallet and mints tBTC, a 1:1 BTC-backed token secured by Threshold's 51-of-100 signer model, which you can redeem for BTC later (tBTC v2 repository). Wrapped-asset bridges like Across move tokens such as WBTC between chains but never touch the Bitcoin network.

For how custody differs between wrapped BTC tokens, see our Bitcoin holder's guide to wrapped BTC.

How we compared them

On 14 September 2026, we requested quotes for five native BTC routes from BOB Gateway, Garden Finance, THORChain, NEAR Intents and Relay, recorded the output each one returned, and saved a screenshot of all 25 quotes.

Quote tests

The five routes on Ethereum mainnet covered three trade sizes and three output assets:

  1. 0.01 BTC to USDT
  2. 0.1 BTC to USDT
  3. 1 BTC to USDT
  4. 1 BTC to ETH
  5. 1 BTC to USDC

For each route, the highest output is the best quote. We measure every other protocol's gap from it in basis points (bps): the best output minus that protocol's output, divided by the best output, multiplied by 10,000. One bps is 0.01%.

The tests measure what each protocol quoted for the same route. They don't measure executed fills, settlement time, failed swaps or refunds. Quotes move with the market, so a quote taken at another time could rank differently.

Protocols outside the quote tests

Chainflip wasn't part of this round as we noticed some inconsistencies in their quoted amounts against the actual fills. Symbiosis had paused its Bitcoin Bridge on 11 September 2026. tBTC mints and redeems a token rather than quoting a swap, and Across had no route from the Bitcoin network. All four still appear in the custody and coverage comparisons, which use each protocol's documentation and published route data as of 16 September 2026.

Which Bitcoin bridge gives the best quotes for native BTC?

BOB Gateway gave the best quote in 4 of 5 tests. Garden Finance took the fifth, 1.00 USDT ahead on a 0.1 BTC trade.

What the gap looks like on 1 BTC

Basis points make differences look smaller than they are. Here's how much less each protocol quoted than BOB Gateway in the three 1 BTC tests, where Gateway had the best quote every time.

Figure 1. Average gap from the best quote across the five tests. BOB Gateway averaged 0.3 bps and Relay averaged 67.9 bps.

Does trade size change the winner?

At 0.01 BTC, all five quotes sat within 4.93 USDT of each other, and THORChain came second. At 0.1 BTC, Garden Finance led BOB Gateway by 1.00 USDT, and NEAR Intents edged out THORChain. At 1 BTC, the spread between best and worst grew to 529.30 USDT on the USDT route and 0.24461 ETH on the ETH route. Relay came last in all five tests.

Why compare quoted output instead of fees?

Each protocol charges differently, through some mix of protocol fees, solver fees, liquidity fees, platform fees and network fees, so headline rates don't line up. The quoted output is the closest single number to what you actually receive. BOB Gateway's quote already includes all network costs: gas, solver fees and routing. The origin network gas is separate, but the output amount you see is the guaranteed minimum you'll receive.

Our May 2026 update on BTC to stablecoin pricing covers the changes to Gateway's stablecoin routes.

Which protocols had incidents in 2026?

Five incidents this year that you should be aware of.

  • THORChain halted trading after an exploit on 15 May 2026 drained about $10.7 million from one vault. Trading resumed on 23 June 2026.
  • Garden Finance took its app offline on 26 July 2026 after an attacker compromised an independent solver's off-chain database and drained about $450,000 of solver-owned funds, according to Blockaid. Garden said its contracts and user funds weren't affected, and it returned quotes in all five of our tests on 14 September.
  • Symbiosis paused its Bitcoin Bridge after an exploit on 11 September 2026 and has been routing BTC swaps through Chainflip and THORChain since.
  • Chainflip lost 736,442 USDT from its Tron vault on 12 September 2026, when an attacker attached their own memo to a transaction its validators had already signed. Chainflip says all other funds were unaffected. It paused the network and restarted the Tron route on 17 September 2026 (incident report, Phemex). Chainflip was not part of our quote tests.
  • Relay disclosed on 29 September 2026 that its API had exposed pending orders before they executed. MEV bots used this to front-run trades between 12 and 26 September, so about 5,600 users received worse prices. Bots made about $136,000, and the median user lost about $12. No funds were taken from Relay's contracts. Relay is compensating affected users with about $312,000 and paid a $50,000 bounty to Outputlayer, the security team that reported it (ChainCatcher).

Which Bitcoin bridge supports the most destination chains?

ProtocolChains you can reach from native BTCNote
NEAR Intents35Includes Ethereum, Solana, Base, Arbitrum, Tron, TON, Sui, XRP and more. BTC comes in through the Omni Bridge or PoA Bridge
Garden Finance15Includes Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum, BNB Chain, Solana, Starknet, Litecoin, plus the Bitcoin layers Lightning and Spark

Chainflip7Ethereum, Arbitrum, BNB Chain, Solana, Tron, Polkadot and Assethub
BOB Gateway9Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum, BNB Chain, Avalanche, Tron, HyperEVM, Robinhood and Unichain, across 50 routes from native BTC
tBTC9Where tBTC is deployed: Ethereum, Arbitrum, Base, Optimism, Polygon, Solana, Starknet, Sui and BOB. You receive tBTC, not your chosen asset
RelayNot published60 chains live, with Bitcoin marked as limited token support
SymbiosisNone through its own bridge60 chains live. Its Bitcoin Bridge is paused, so BTC swaps go through partners
AcrossNoneWBTC routes only, with no Bitcoin network route

Which Bitcoin bridge offers the best balance of fees, speed and security?

For native BTC to stablecoins or ETH, BOB Gateway offers the best balance in this comparison. It had the best quote in 4 of 5 tests, gives you a guaranteed minimum before you send BTC, charges no protocol fee markup, and has been audited by Pashov and Common Prefix. Garden Finance fits better if a timelock refund you control matters more than the quote. Relay fits better if your destination chain isn't covered elsewhere.

Table 7. Quote results, custody design and settlement dependencies for the five quote-tested protocols.

For native BTC, settlement time mostly comes down to how many Bitcoin confirmations a protocol waits for. Chainflip waits for 3 Bitcoin blocks, about 30 minutes, before it acts on a deposit (Chainflip docs). BOB Gateway's completion time is about 10 minutes on average, and every quote comes with an estimate (Gateway docs).

Gateway also takes destination gas out of the swap, so you don't need to hold ETH to receive USDT on Ethereum (Gateway fees docs). Gateway's audits are listed in the Gateway FAQ.

Which Bitcoin bridge should you choose?

Choose by the job you need done. BOB Gateway fits the most common one: turning native BTC into stablecoins or ETH at a competitive quote. The others each fit a narrower need.

Is BOB Gateway a Bitcoin bridge?

BOB Gateway is intent-based: you state the outcome you want, like 1 BTC to USDC on Ethereum, and get a signed quote from a solver. You send BTC to a deposit address for that order. Once the deposit is confirmed, the solver delivers your output in a single atomic transaction, or refunds your BTC if it can't.

For swaps back to BTC, your funds sit in escrow until BOB's Bitcoin light client verifies the solver's BTC payment onchain. Only then is the escrow released to the solver (Gateway technical docs).

A BTC-to-token Gateway swap works like this (Gateway docs):

  1. You request a quote. Gateway returns a signed quote with routing, fees and your guaranteed minimum output.
  2. You create an order and get a unique Bitcoin deposit address for it.
  3. You sign one Bitcoin transaction to that address.
  4. Once the deposit is confirmed, the solver delivers your output in a single atomic transaction. If it can't, your BTC is refunded.
  5. The asset arrives on the destination chain.

For swaps back to BTC, your funds sit in escrow until BOB's Bitcoin light client verifies the solver's BTC payment onchain.

If a swap can't settle at the quoted terms, the solver re-quotes and retries, and if not then refunds the order to the refund address on your order (Gateway FAQ).

What BOB Gateway isn't

  • A lock-and-mint bridge. Gateway doesn't hold your BTC in a bridge contract and issue a token against it.
  • A centralized exchange. You swap from your own Bitcoin wallet, with no exchange account.
  • Only a bridge. Gateway also swaps native BTC into tokenized gold (XAUT and PAXG), supports EVM-to-EVM swaps, moves native BTC into staking and lending positions in one transaction, and offers tools for wallets, apps and AI agents (Gateway overview).

BOB's mission is to build the rails for universal Bitcoin banking, with BOB Gateway as the first step.
